Whether you're changing daycare centers for personal reasons or because you need to save money or have something closer to your home or place of work, when you have many daycare centers to choose from, it can be hard to narrow down your options.

Here's a guide to help you know what to look for in daycare centers. Think about why you're leaving your current daycare for a new one and start the process to find a new one by using this guide today.

Transportation services

Some daycare centers have transportation services that parents and guardians use to help their children get to and from school. If this is a service you're interested in, know that not all daycare centers provide it, and those that do often charge extra for it. It's a great benefit, however, if you are already having to take time off work or other activities to take children to and from school and want assistance in transporting your children to the daycare center.

Sensory activities

Sensory activities, or activities that encourage touch, sound, taste, and other senses, can be great for your growing children and can make learning and socializing more fun for those who have sensory sensitivities. Ask any daycare centers you're interviewing about what kind of activities they offer and what benefits they believe they have for children. This way, you can know you're on the same page with the providers who care for your children in the future.

Preschool or learning services

If you can find daycare centers that offer preschool or other learning services, all the better. This is great, especially for children who are getting ready to start kindergarten or full-time school. You can find daycare centers that have certified teachers who educate their charges and help them socialize at the same time.

Safety and special needs training

If your children have special needs or have allergies or other medical issues, then finding daycare centers that educate their staff in both safety and special needs training is key. This way, you can know your child is always in good hands when they are away from you. If your child has very specific needs or requires constant one-on-one care, then choose a daycare center that has a small child-to-adult ratio.

Any daycare centers you're considering should be visited in person to determine if they are a good fit for you and your children. You'll get a feel for the environments you visit and also can see how clean they are and what toys are available for children, among other important observations.
